Improve Your Sports Performance With Hypnotherapy

Many of us dream of one day improving our golf swing, having a better backhand on the tennis court or beating a personal best time during a run. Training and practice can achieve this, but hypnotherapy could also be used to help us reach our goals and make us better at our chosen sport.

Hypnosis techniques have long been used by golfing professionals but the therapy has become more popular in other sports including football, rowing, boxing and cricket. Sports men and women are increasingly aware of the benefits hypnosis can bring to improving their performance alongside other methods such as sports psychology.

Sports psychology uses imagery and mental rehearsal and is commonly used by someone like Tiger Woods. The psychological techniques Woods employs help him visualise his next shot and where the ball will go before ever having to swing a club. By using this rehearsal in his mind, he can ‘act out’ a perfect shot which then aids him mentally as he actually steps up to strike the ball for real.

This works because the mind and body are linked in such a way that by preparing the mind in advance, there is a chance the body will react exactly as you would want it. But don’t think it’s just for professionals, it’s for amateur and recreational sports men and women too. Although you may not want to become a champion, poor performance can affect your enjoyment of a sport and we all want to finish a game or run feeling happy rather than disappointed don’t we? Hypnosis can get you to a level where you can be proud of your performance again and enjoy the sport you take part in.

So how can hypnotherapy help? The therapy works by accessing your sub-conscious (the part of the mind where good and bad memories are stored) and where you keep information about previous performances. By focusing on only the good performances, you can push the bad out of mind preventing you from recalling past mistakes again. With those bad experiences gone, there is less chance of repeating them when playing. You can then just focus on a picture of exactly what you want to do, how you’re going to do it and the feelings associated with getting it right. This is known as an ‘anchoring state’ which can be important when asking your body to react in a certain way.

How does this happen? A hypnotherapist will induce you into a trance-like state which slows your heart-rate and breathing. You will remain in total control during this and the sensation is one of deep relaxation rather than sleep. Once this achieved, the therapist will use beneficial suggestion to help you control your sub-conscious mind and allow you to alter behaviour and feelings that have previously been detrimental to your sporting performance. The process will also remove any anxiety, free up tension in the muscles and boost your confidence.

Hypnotherapy is widely used in sports men and women with long-term injuries too, helping them on the road to recovery. A stretch out of the game can hamper form and leave you with feelings of anger and fear. These negative forces can prolong the injury if not addressed and hypnosis is one way of helping you back.

Belief in your ability plays a major part in your sporting performance and hypnotherapy can increase this greatly. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind and its applications can be used for therapeutic purposes and performance enhancement. Many hypnotherapists specialise in sports performance and are happy to work with individuals as well as teams so get in touch with your local practitioner for further advice on what hypnotherapy can do for you.

Hypnotherapy for Confidence – Discover the Great Orator. You!

Not many of us give ourselves the credit of being great speakers; neither do we find ourselves comfortable and confident when encountering new people and situations. How often have you found yourself rehearsing the lines which you are supposed to speak at tomorrow’s meeting? Even though some of us might feel more confident than the rest, it would not be untrue to say that they too have their fair share of cold feet. Sudden bouts of nervousness and palpitations do not indicate that you are having a serious health condition; in most cases it just indicates a lack of self confidence. It would be safe to say that nearly 90% of all humanity suffers from low confidence; if only we could find a magic lamp to cure us of it. Well, I am here to tell you that such a magic lamp exists and it is called hypnotherapy for confidence; and it generally comes in the form of CD’s , audio tapes, books and therapists like me!

So now that we have mentioned that hypnotherapy for confidence is actually a plausible option available to you first let’s discuss how low confidence affects us in everyday life. See, a person’s confidence is like torchlight in the dark…it radiates outwards from us and other people can see it. So even though low self confidence is an internal problem, the affects of it can be seen externally as well. How many of us remember sniggering at someone in school who faltered while reciting something? It is a natural reaction for most of us, but it can be damaging to the person at the receiving end. However, if you suffer from low self-confidence you need to realize that it has a lot to do with your self image; the way you perceive yourself is reflected in the way others perceive you.

Low self confidence can blindside you at any situation in life – exam nerves, fear of public speaking, of being interviewed, of meeting new people, stage fright, fear of being laughed at and so on. Some of us have more visible physical reactions to low confidence…sweating, stammering, shaking, blushing; these are all by products of low confidence. Hypnotherapy first helps you address the core problem of low confidence – your self image in your own eyes. Through positive suggestions about yourself, hypnosis helps you get rid of unwanted beliefs about yourself. It helps remove the clutter in your mind, and clears the path towards discovering a new you. Through the help of hypnotherapy for confidence, you can take care of most problems related to anxiety and low confidence.

When you suffer from a bout of nerves and are low on confidence, you need to channelize that negative energy somewhere else. Do you know that most great orators at one point in time have suffered from a serious case of nerves? Some of the biggest rockstars and actors still get cold feet two minutes before they appear on stage, so don’t berate yourself too much if you feel nervous; its but natural. However what you need to tackle is the fear of the situation; and hypnotherapy for confidence can help you do that. By working on your inner confidence and making you aware of all the positives in you, hypnotherapy clears your mind, and this clarity is manifested externally through a sense of self confidence and assertiveness.

Remember, nerves can be dealt with, only if you want to deal with yourself first.

How Hypnotherapy Can Ease Even The Most Severe Headache

s experience headaches from time to time. Usually they just fade away after a fairly brief period and then they are gone, with no real damage done. Chronic headaches, however, ones that recur with regularity can really interfere with our healthy functioning, affecting our relationships and work life and seriously compromising us in so many areas of our existence. It’s important to remember that if a severe headache lasts for 24 hours or more, or if it is accompanied by vomiting or blurred vision, then you need to visit your doctor immediately. Generally speaking, there are two different kinds of headache – tension and cluster. (Migraine is something more than a headache and will be treated in a seperate article.) Speaking from a strictly medical perspective, the actual cause of both these types of headache is unknown. Often though, tension headaches are exactly what the name suggests. They seem to be triggered by stress and tension, anxiety, depression and emotional discomfort. Poor posture can also play a part in the onset of this kind of headache, as can really bright light, food sensitivities, menstrual periods and even the weather. Painkillers such as aspirin, paracetamol and ibuprofen can often help with the milder kind of headache, but the body can easily become habituated to these pharmaceuticals, greatly reducing their effectiveness. Also, withdrawal headaches can occur when these substances are withdrawn. Cluster headaches also sometimes appear to be triggered by such things as alcohol, odours and changes in temperature. Of course, they can just as simply appear with no clear and apparent reason at all. This particular kind of headache just doesn’t respond well to over the counter medication. Drugs available on a doctor’s prescription include Sumatriptan and Ergotamine, but these powerful pharmaceuticals, like most others, can have considerable side-effects. How much better it would be if we were able to access our own inner ability to manage headaches, rather than having to depend on some external chemical substance for relief. And it is here that modern hypnotherapy can be or real assistance and value. With expertly delivered modern hypnotherapy your own subconscious mind can be taught to manage headaches without recourse to external medications and drugs. Through advanced transformational hypnotherapy you can learn how to turn any headache into an insubstantial mist that can simply be exhaled and dissipated, leaving you free to continue your day with a clear mind. In hypnosis you can learn to recognise the headache triggers before they occur – and then do something about them. You can learn to reverse the process that actually generates the headache, thereby putting you in control and fully empowering you. Headaches really don’t need to ruin your day or control your enjoyment of it. With the right kind of hypnotherapy you can draw a line under the pain and inconvenience of headaches and get on with your life.

What Is The Difference Between Hypnotherapy And Hypnosis?

What is the difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy? The difference is that hypnosis is a natural state of mind. When you’re under hypnosis, you feel relaxed. It’s a lot like that wonderful feeling of high that you feel when you’re lying in your bed after a long day’s work. You feel so overcome with comfort that you just want that moment to e able to last forever.

Through some simple relaxation techniques, you can attain that same state. With the assistance of a trained hypnotherapist, you can get back into that state of well being and reach goals such as weight loss, quitting smoking and realizing a happier life.

Hypnotherapy is also known as self-hypnosis. This can be a very powerful and effective tool to help yourself change and experience a higher quality of life. You can begin to ask yourself certain questions such as;

1. What do I want my life to be like 1 , 2 or 3 years from now? Make sure you are detailed and honest with your answers here. You don’t need to be reasonable, its about what you really want!

2. What changes do I need to make in order for this to come about? Again, logic is not your friend here. Be creative, be outrageous, and have fun. What changes do you think you’ll have to do in your way of thinking?

3. Could anything negative come about from making these changes? Can you think of any drawbacks from making these changes?

4. How much do I really want the things I want? This may make you realize that some things you thought you wanted, you really don’t want, but instead you may want something different.

Try to spend a few hours or even the rest of the day thinking about these questions. When people are anxious or stressed, they often think about negative things all day long. So why not begin to also give those things you want in your life more room to think about. This is a much deeper way of thinking and this is the level at which hypnotherapy has shown to have proven results.

Some people may claim that they have never been hypnotized or that they cannot be hypnotized. These people may not fully understand what hypnosis is all about. Just about everyone has drifted off while being in a class room. Just about everyone has daydreamed or drifted while driving somewhere and forgot where they were driving to. And just about everyone has gone somewhere else while being absorbed in reading a book. These are all perfect examples of hypnosis. The great thing about hypnosis is that with a trained professional, it will not produce any damaging side effects and can help provide positive changes.

What is involved in hypnotherapy? There is a two step process that goes on between the client and the therapist or professional. A person cannot be hypnotized against their own will. That means he or she has to agree to cooperate. While being hypnotized, nobody can make you do anything that you don’t want to do. Even people on TV or in movies that are barking like dogs, or hopping on one foot pretending to be Napoleon are doing it because they want to do it. They have chosen to participate in that hypnosis. Also, those people on TV are doing something that is called “stage hypnosis”. This type of hypnosis is very different from clinical hypnosis.

The first phase of hypnotherapy involves a consultation. In the consultation you’ll probably answer some questions that are posed by your therapist. They are to establish the nature of your problems and issues. They will also help the therapist to craft a plan to deal and work through them. The next step is hypnosis. This can be done in a variety of ways. Most likely, you’ll be gently lead by your therapist voice into a state where your entire body and mind become deeply relaxed. You’ll be so deeply relaxed as to almost be asleep. To someone looking on, you may seem as if you’re totally asleep, but in fact you will be awake although very relaxed. In addition, the parts of your mind that your therapist will be working with will also be awake and listening. It will feel much like a daydream. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, you have the option terminating the session. Remember, the hypontherapists job is to help you.

NLP and Hypnotherapy Training 101

Have you ever wondered how those few, select individuals in the world tend to be so much more successful at what they do than the many? By success, we mean a tool to measure what one has accomplished and mastered, whether it be mowing a lawn, riding a motorcycle, or being the CEO of a major corporation. Success in one particular subject may be of high favor to one, while another might prefer something completely different. This is where the studies of Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Hypnotherapy come into play.

NLP, or Neuro-Linguistic Programming, is a study of how the structure of how we, as human beings, think, react and experience the world around us, as well as how we communicate what we know to others. NLP creates and uses models of many of the most successful minds to “map out” how the few think, act and communicate while comparing and contrasting it to the many. By doing so, methods and techniques have been developed to change the thinking process as well as the behaviors of those who practice.

For example, let’s say that you have an underlying phobia of snakes and you have no idea where it came from. For as long as you can remember, the mere thought of a snake makes you cringe, or maybe even scream. Why, then, is it that there are those few individuals who have a pet python that they take out of its tank and play with on a daily basis? This is how the models are created, by getting deep into the subconscious of the select few and finding out how their mind works regarding snakes so that the many with the phobia can be helped.

NLP also relies heavily on “presuppositions” in which one who practices repeats to himself in order to help change their own, personal attitude and a bit of the world around them. Much like affirmations, they are simple, positive reinforcements that focus on the basics of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, such as communication and the thinking process. “There is no such thing as failure-only feedback” is one such presupposition.

Another belief of NLB is that all humans have within them the power to heal and avoid, to combat sickness and disease. The ability to tap into this portion of your subconscious can be a bit trickier, thus the reason for the use of Hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy is so much more than putting yourself or someone else to “sleep” by dangling a pocket watch in front of them. In fact, modern day Hypnotherapy can be relayed through storytelling and/or symbolism to help you communicate with your unconscious mind, allowing different, powerful options to come and go freely. By tapping into your own imagination, you will be able to utilize your positive strengths to get past where you are, ending up where you want to be.

Both NLP and Hypnotherapy are yielding positive outcomes for many when they are used separately, and even greater results when practiced concurrently.

Stage Hypnosis versus Hypnotherapy – Methods Revealed

I have done a fair amount of demonstration hypnosis to audiences, including hallucination hypnosis and altering the memory of a subject.

Here are brief explanations of the two types of the application of hypnosis I am writing about:

Stage Hypnosis:

Is a demonstration of the willingness of certain individuals to use hypnosis as an excuse to be the centre of attraction to a non-critical audience. It is also a vehicle for a proclaimed hypnotist to stroke his own ego and to give the false impression that he is all powerful and in total control of those individuals I have just described.

Hypnotherapy:

On the other hand, a Hypnotherapist is an individual who for whatever reason, usually because of a need within his personality, to help other individuals in need of psychological help. A Hypnotherapist should be well versed in both the ethical use of hypnosis and a working knowledge of psychology, both of which are used to help his client towards a better life.

The Mechanics

How does a stage hypnotist appear to control his subjects? To answer that we have to become aware of what is actually happening some hours before and during his performance.

Here are the procedures that are typically applied before a hypnotist carries out his act:

1. Before the hypnotist appears on stage, he would have received a great deal of positive and complimentary publicity. There should also be an entrance charge to his act, the higher the better. Reasons being that the publicity builds up an expectation of a powerful figure and when a fee is paid, it is an unconscious way of saying, ‘I believe the publicity’. In fact, those people who know themselves to be hypnotisable, are unconsciously expecting to be, and invariably will, be hypnotised.

2. On the actual night, the audience will be kept waiting to build up the expectancy even more. Usually the proprietors of the establishment will continually mention that the hypnotist will appear later in the evening. This is, in a way, similar to the build up to a T.V. show when the floor manager and some well known personality prepares the audience for the show starts.

Also, it is common practice to use alcohol to free the inhibitions, by being available for at least a couple of hours before the show.

3. The appearance of the hypnotist will be to the sound of great applause – again building up the expectation and causing excitement. The personal attire of the hypnotist is usually black to give that mystical appearance and to create the impression of power. This is not absolutely necessary if the performer is well known.

4. The hypnotist will then talk to the audience and further convince them that he is the powerful figure they were expecting who has the magical hypnotic powers expected of him. Usually the talk includes personal testimonials to his abilities.

5. Now to the performance.

The hypnotist will always carry out a number of hypnosis suggestibility tests to establish who is highly suggestible within the audience. For example, clasping the hands in front of the body and then being told they are stuck together.

The tests are intended to produce a small number of people who respond readily to suggestions and who are either able to convince themselves they can be hypnotised or, are willing to do foolish things with the excuse of having no control over their actions due to being hypnotised.

6. The suggestibility tests are varied and numerous, but always separate the highly suggestible members of an audience from those who do not want to go up on stage or are not very responsive to hypnosis.

Here are more details about the Hand Clasp Suggestibility Test.

a. The audience is asked to stand up (those that do are responding to an order which is a subtle suggestion) and then to hold their arms out in front of them.

They are then instructed to clasp the hands together, intertwining their fingers (the hypnotist will demonstrate to ensure the instructions are followed exactly as that is very important).

b. The audience is then told that when the hypnotist counts up to a certain number, the hands will become stuck together (this is repeated at least three times in accordance with the Laws of suggestion and on the final number the hypnotist will ask the audience to try to unclasp their hands (try – is a word that suggests that you cannot).

The audience is told that the harder they try (this is another suggestion) the more difficult it will become and they will find they cannot unclasp the hands, no matter how hard they try.

7. As it is known that approximately 25% of any audience is highly suggestible and as a result in any audience there will be a number of people who will not be able to unclasp their hands. Sometimes a lot and sometimes very few.

8. Those people who cannot unclasp their hands are asked to remain standing (this is to ensure the hypnotist does not lose track of them and enables him to observe the exhibitionists amongst them.

Another suggestion is given to allow them to unclasp their hands, usually by simply telling them to relax their hands and on a given word or a snap of the fingers they will be able to unclasp their hands. The reason their hands are clasped together is because they are tensing them and the simple act of relaxing enables them to unclasp, but the audience believes it is the power of the hypnotist at work. (try it and press hard ont he back of the hands with your fingers).

9. Sometimes, the hypnotist will then carry out another suggestibility test to lower the numbers of possible subjects. This is done mainly with large audiences.

10. The hypnotist will then invite those people standing to go on to the stage and sit on chairs already placed in a line behind the hypnotist. The chairs will have already acted as a powerful suggestion as the audience will have seen them and expected members of the audience to sit in them and be hypnotised.

11. Those of the audience who accept the invitation are in effect giving the hypnotist permission to do whatever he wants with them as they know what is to be expected.

The stage hypnotist will also use more methods to get a member of an audience on stage ready to appear to do as bid.

A Hypnotherapist, uses none of the above methods, although sometimes the hand clasp is used to convince a client that the hypnosis being used is genuine.

Hypnotherapists are there to help and not to make a client feel foolish. An important requirement for any Hypnotherapist is a caring, kind and understanding nature. The need to help others is a bonus.

Also important is the training a Hypnotherapist receives. Any course taken MUST include the psychology aspect of treating clients. The reason simply being that a Hypnotherapist treats psychological problems and he or she must understand human behaviour. It is not necessary to hold a degree in psychology, but knowledge of most forms of psychology is important.

At no time would an ethical Hypnotherapist produce a situation where the client becomes reliant on the therapy of therapist. The goal of a Hypnotherapist is to guide the client towards self-reliance when he or she is in full control of the life he or she wants to lead.

Hypnotherapy can be used to treat almost, but not all, psychological ailments.

8 Prehypnosis Tips for a Good Hypnotherapy Home Study Course

A good hypnosis home study course allows us to relax and rejuvenate our soul with renewed strength and motivation. Dipping into our selfhypnosis state is easy, we drift into it unconsciously when we look outside the window, stare blankly for a few minutes, and listen intently to a soothing music. In fact, going into selfhypnosis is so easy hypnotherapy home study courses should only serve as a guide.

The challenge though, is on tapping into these selfhypnotic states and on infusing the goals and missions we want to achieve. The potential for positive change is only limited by the extent of your preparation. How you format your own growth formulas will determine the level of your success. What separates a GREAT self hypnosis experience from a GOOD one is the amount of self-imposed lessons we absorb. In same respect, the measure of a GREAT hypnotherapy session is how it effectively prods the user to learn from the home study course.

In this light, I’ve put in here a step-by-step guide from clinical hypnosis pioneer, Dr. Brian Alman. Derived from Dr. Alman’s hypnotherapy home study course, these minor tips helped a lot in creating a meaningful and learning selfhypnosis experience.

1. Write down what you’d like to say to yourself, from beginning to end. You may want to write out a script for your own selfhypnosis. You can develop your own personal combination that you are comfortable with. Experiment.

2. Write out several different kinds of suggestions for each goal.

3. Develop some material for using visualization and imagery. Such suggestions could guide you to a quiet, relaxed setting and blend in some metaphors for changes that you wish to make. For example: “With my eyes closed, I can picture an open meadow in the mountains … similar to the one I saw on my vacation last year. I may be able to feel the warmth of the sun on my face as I lie relaxed in the grass and watch the leaves fall slowly from the trees … Those leaves falling can remind me of how I can let go of old problems and worries … and let them fall away from me … just as the old leaves fall from the trees to make room for new growth … new changes.”

4. You can imagine going down some steps in order to deepen your trance-state. Visualize yourself going down in an elevator or floating down a stream or river, and the farther down you move, the more relaxed and the deeper into your self-hypnosis you can go. If you feel more comfortable and get better results by imagining moving up an escalator or river, then feel free to direct yourself in that manner.

5. You can include any number of varied suggestions toward whatever goal you wish to work on. However, try to work on only one or two specific goals per trance session. With more than that, your efforts will become diluted and less effective. But you can give yourself many different suggestions toward the same goal. For a goal of more concentration in a sport, you could include suggestions for before, during, and after play.

6. It may be soothing and relaxing to record some background music along with your suggestions. You might want to experiment with metronome ticking or any other sound that you can use as a focus for your concentration and attention.

7. Toward the end of your trance, always include some suggestions for reentering self-hypnosis the next time you practice. For example: “I know that the benefit I get from this trance experience is a positive, healthy experience, and any time I wish to enter this quality of time, all I need to do is relax in a comfortable position, take several deep breaths, and imagine a warm pleasant color (or any cue that reminds you of the relaxation of self-hypnosis). Whenever I take several deep breaths and imagine that color … I will notice that I can return quickly and easily to this deep level of relaxation and comfort.”

8. If you’re going to tape record the script, speak at a pace that begins in your normal tone of voice and at a relaxed speed. As you progress with the recording, slow your pace and soften the tone of your voice slightly, if you can. By the time your tape concludes, you may be speaking in a much slower cadence and much more softly than when you began. This will provide an audio cue for you to slow down and relax as you enter selfhypnosis regardless of which technique you use.

These tips are actual pointers Dr. Alman himself follows in his own line of hypnotherapy home study course programs. Those of you familiar with his hypnosis materials should recognize Dr. Alman’s style in these reminders.

The goal is always the same however, regardless of whatever hypnosis home study course you’re using. Growth is something you can’t have at a snap of a finger, even in a dozen. It’s acquired thru meaningful experiences and learning opportunities: both of which can be found in a decent hypnosis home study course.

Metaphysical Hypnotherapy

Metaphysical Hypnotherapy is simply the use of hypnosis in a deep, spiritual and mystical way to enable a person to take control of feelings, behaviours, habits, and self-image. I have seen just about every possible human problem one can imagine. I could not begin to guess how many times I have heard a client, in describing what they want to accomplish in hypnotherapy say, “ You’ve probably never heard of someone with THIS problem.”

It seems most people feel as if they and their problems are unique among human experience. While our experiences make each of us unique, what we feel, how we respond to the world around us, and how we interact with other people is not unique. We all have the same senses. The way we deal with this life is greatly variable, but only within certain parameters. There are boundaries to human experience and behaviour. Your feelings, thoughts, behaviours, and problems aren’t as strange or unusual as you might think.

People don’t tell others about their fears, doubts, worries, anxieties, or things they think are strange about themselves. Believe me, whatever your difficulty in life might be, it isn’t as strange or unusual as you think. I have never been shocked by something a client told me. As a matter of fact, I haven’t even been surprised for some time now. There are only so many things humans can do.

There certainly have been some clients over the years for which hypnotherapy was not the appropriate form of therapy. These people were referred to other professionals. In most cases the presented problem is far less serious than people think. I believe that in most instances people can solve their own problems, with a little understanding, direction, positive motivation, and effective mental dynamics.

Metaphysical hypnotherapy, of course, uses the mental tool of hypnosis combined with the therapists (and there are not many metaphysical hypnotherapists) skilled guidance in the application of the laws of metaphysics. Many people have seen too many movies or television shows where a writer needed a magical solution to a plot problem and used that mystical power of hypnosis to solve his problem. Hypnosis may indeed hold a mystical element when it is combined with a metaphysical approach to therapy. It IS a very effective mental tool that enables people to take control of things that may have seemed beyond their control in the past. Metaphysical hypnosis is a completely natural, yet different, state of consciousness from the normal waking state. When a person is in the state of hypnosis he/she is completely awake and alert. He/she knows exactly what is happening at all times. You can not be controlled by someone using hypnosis. While under hypnosis, your awareness is actually heightened and carefully focused. You become very receptive to positive suggestions that are acceptable to you, and are able to learn from the artificial experiences or perhaps reconnection with past states of being or even precognition of future or alternative states or dimensions perceived in the hypnotic state.

I have been asked, hundreds of times, “ What about those stage shows where they make people do all those ridiculous things?” They don’t MAKE anyone do anything. Think about who goes up on stage and why. You would certainly never see me up there! I don’t like being foolish in public. These people are volunteers. They want to be foolish and playful on stage and not be responsible for their behaviour. They are having fun. None of them will ever do anything they don’t want to do under hypnosis. No one ever does. A person under hypnosis is only doing what he wants to do aided by the freeing and emotive power of hypnosis.

A well-trained and experienced therapist can use the artificial (guided models) or perhaps past-life, future life projection, time-line metaphysics or similar experiences perceived under hypnosis to desensitize a client’s fears, improve his self-image, or gain other behavioural or emotional goals. Goal achievement is an area of human behaviour where this tool of hypnosis is very helpful. Other areas include overcoming fears, improving sports, performance, stress control and relaxation, elimination of habits, gaining self confidence, sexual dysfunction, smoking cessation, tinnitus reduction/management and success motivation. Basically, if a feeling or behaviour in your life is undesirable to you, in most cases Metaphysical Hypnotherapy can be of value by helping an individual to connect with and draw upon the power of the universal mind.

The real goal in most cases is for the client to learn effective mental dynamics and take control of his life. This is often achieved with a mix of therapeutic techniques. There are no easy fixes. There is no effortless cure for your problems, but with a little knowledge, a little effort, and personal responsibility you can make your life what you want it to be. The real magic is in responsibility, focus, new understanding and application of universal principles. It helps a lot to have effective tools and the knowledge with which to apply these principles effectively for healing and positive change. Your life should be what you want it to be. It is your life. Take control and get what you desire out of it.

Different Areas Of Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is the optimal approach for tapping into the hidden resources of human nature. The power of hypnosis has been demonstrated in a great number of cultures throughout the millennia by those individuals who have devoted the time and effort needed to acquire this highly specialised art.

Acquiring this knowledge has given devotees of hypnosis a power and often a position of great influence and authority that can be used for great benefit to humanity. It has been used as a great influence in the persuading of the masses in demonstrations of healing of mind and body, in great breakthroughs in scientific understanding, in the arts and in all fields of human expression.

It has been known under different names in different cultures. Its power was known to the ancient Hindus, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, to name some major cultures. Its power has been used by the shamans, witch doctors and occultists of every kind. In modern times, it was the basis of the modern field of psychotherapy and much of applied psychology, although often not properly understood or appreciated as such, and its principles have been invoked to create the field of modern mass marketing and the dissemination of political ideas.

In personal development, hypnosis is an essential art in self-understanding, spiritual progress, and overcoming psychological problems and limitations for the achievement of mental health and happiness. Modern clinical hypnotherapy is used for a vast range of purposes which can be broadly grouped in several main areas.

– Psychological problems

– Behavioural problems including addictions and many self-sabotaging behaviours

– Performance enhancement

– Spiritual development

– Psychosomatic disorders

– Weight loss

– Smoking cessation – giving up smoking!

– Health and fitness enhancement

– Pain control – hypnoanaesthesia

Specialised applications within these key areas continue to be developed as knowledge of the human mind and the human nervous system continue to grow. The understanding of hypnosis, what it is and how it works, and the purposes, to which it can be applied, continue to multiply. Hypnosis is inexorably moving into the mainstream of human consciousness. The public at large and professionals in many specialisms are discovering that hypnosis has much to offer for personal health, personal development and success in one’s professional and vocational undertakings and personal goals.

The demands for a hypnotherapist’s services are virtually unlimited. The potential situations that a hypnotherapist can work in are increasingly extensive and the hypnotist’s services are becoming more desirable and valued. It simply depends on the creativity of the hypnotist. The art of hypnotherapy cannot be understood simply by acquisition of academic theoretical learning alone but requires in-depth personal experience of hypnotic methods for oneself, as well as sufficient experience of successful application of hypnosis to resolve problems of other people. It is the combination of subjective experience of hypnosis and confidence in the methods gained from successful applications on others which are essential elements for developing effective hypnotherapists.

Effective training in hypnotherapy requires learning from a high-achieving and experienced practitioner, successful application of self-hypnosis and study of key texts in the literature of hypnotherapy.

Although Hypnotherapy training is largely an unregulated field so it is important to be aware of different area of training. Some doctors and physicians should also consider medical hypnosis & hypnotherapy training courses for their fields.

What Can be Achieved With Hypnotherapy Training

Can anybody learn to be a hypnotherapist?

Complementary therapy is very much on the rise these days, probably because it is viewed by many as more ‘natural’ than the man-made intervention of medication. One of the most natural of all is hypnotherapy; it does not rely on any substances and uses simply the power of the client’s/patient’s own mind to effect an alleviation of symptoms which can be astonishingly profound.

Currently, hypnotherapy is an unregulated profession (though some would call it an ‘art’) which means that literally anybody could just start up a practice, whether or not they had carried out any formal study. The fact is, though, that they would be unlikely to survive for very long in practice without the proper resources to do the job – in order to be successful, recommendation from satisfied ‘customers’ is an essential facet of the hypnotherapist’s survival.

So, how do you set about hypnotherapy training, how do you know you’ve got good training, and what should that course teach you?

Well, obviously, how to take people in and out of hypnosis with total safety and confidence. That part of the job is so easy that anybody can learn how to do it – as long as they can have a sensible conversation with another, they can learn to be a hypnotist. But a hypnotist is not a hypnotherapist. And that’s where the quality of training is so important. In addition to hypnosis, a good course should:

– Teach you about the promotional side of the business

– Give you an understanding of the way the human psyche ‘works’

– Show you how to decide on what style of therapy is needed

– Teach you what do to if something unexpected happens

– Confer the ability for registration with a reputable professional association

– Offer total post-graduate support

As you might imagine, there’s rather more to it than that but any course worth its salt will be based around those criteria and because of this it should already be obvious that the ‘do it in a weekend’ course is going to fall far short of requirements.

A good course will comprise around 120 hours of practical and theory in the classroom (often spread over 10 months or so) and a further 450 hours of home study and assignments. Once this is completed and you have your hypnotherapy training diploma in your hand, there are ample opportunities for further study to take you to the very top of a totally fascinating tree.

Good luck!
